Senior Section Competition Formats
Additional medal and stableford competitions have been scheduled to provide
members not chosen to play in the Caledonian League or friendly matches,
competitive golf, please continue to support these long established matches.
Throughout the season there may be changes due to circumstances beyond our
control, these will be notified by email or on the notice board in the locker room.
Malcolm Speirs Trophy
This is a friendly competition to start off the season, with teams chosen by random
draw. There are no fees, you are playing to win this prestigious trophy. It’s a fourball
better ball competition played off yellow tees. Course Handicap is a maximum of 54,
playing handicap is 85% of the players’ handicap. Each player plays his own ball and
the lowest nett score at each hole is recorded on the card.
Walter Smillie Cup
This is a singles stableford competition played off the yellow tees. The maximum
course handicap is 54, with a 95% handicap allowance as per WHS.
Senior/Junior Competition
A three person scramble, two seniors and one junior, format to be confirmed.
Stableford Shield
This is a singles stableford competition played off yellow tees. The maximum course
handicap is 54, with a 95% handicap allowance as per WHS.
Medals
This is a singles stroke play competition played off yellow tees. The maximum
course handicap is 54, with a 95% handicap allowance as per WHS.
Stablefords
This is a singles stableford competition played off yellow tees. The maximum course
handicap is 54, with a 95% handicap allowance as per WHS.
Spencer Pot
Played off the white tees, this is a singles stroke play competition, with a course
handicap maximum of 54 and 95% playing handicap allowance. This competition
contributes to the overall winners of the Grouse and Charlie Mitchell Trophies.
Claret Jug
Played off White Tees, this is a singles stroke play competition played with a
maximum course handicap of 54. The playing handicap is a 95% allowance.
Greensome Quaich
This is a pairs competition played off yellow tee markers with a maximum course
handicap of 54. Team handicap is calculated as 60% of the lower handicap and 40%
of the higher handicap combined. The handicap is exact and not rounded up or
down. Both team players tee off, decide which ball to play and then play alternate
shots till the completion of the hole.
Rae McFarlane Trophy
Played off White Tees, this is a singles stroke play competition with a maximum
course handicap of 54. Playing handicap is 95% of allowance. This competition
contributes to the overall winners of the Grouse and Charlie Mitchell Trophies.
Keith Adams Trophy
Played off the white tees, this is a singles stroke play competition with a maximum
handicap of 54. Playing handicap is a 95% allowance. This competition contributes
to the overall winners of the Grouse and Charlie Mitchell Trophies.
Seniors Professional Day
This is a competition sponsored by the Club Professional. Format still to be decided.
Larry Smith Trophy
This is a three-man scramble team competition played off yellow tees. The team
handicap is 30% of the total combined course handicaps which are restricted to a
maximum of 18 per player. Each player must use a minimum of 5 drives each.
Albert Woods
Teams are drawn randomly for this is a better ball competition played off yellow tees.
The maximum handicap is 54, with a playing handicap allowance of 85%. Each
player plays his own ball, the lowest nett score at each hole is recorded on the card.
Dougie Hawke Trophy
The £5 Entry fee for this singles stableford competition is donated to Strathcarron
Hospice. Played off the yellow tees, players maximum handicap is 54, with a 95%
handicap allowance as per WHS. There is no sweep or magic 2’s.
Jimmy Dick Trophy
This is a four-person scramble played off yellow tees with a maximum handicap ofTeam handicap is 25%, 20%, 15% and 10% from lowest to highest course handicap of the team members. Each player must use a minimum of 4 drives each.
Three Person Scramble
Drawn names set the teams for this three-person event, consisting of two senior
gents and a lady. It’s a shotgun start where Gents play from yellow tees and Ladies
from red tees. Full course handicaps will be permitted and the team handicap will be
20% of the team total handicaps. Gents must use 5 drives each and ladies 4 drives
each. Prizes are awarded for nearest pin and longest drive for ladies and for gents.
Iain Mackay Quaich
Played from the yellow tees, this is a random draw, pairs competition based on an
American Greensome or Pinehurst format. Where players drive at every hole and
play their partner’s ball for their next shot. Thereafter they choose the best ball and
play alternative shots till the hole is completed. Team handicap is calculated as 60%
of the lower course handicap and 40% of the higher course handicap combined.
Handicap is exact and not rounded up or down.
Winter Ochil Shield
Is a popular winter competition for members of the Senior Section, played every Wednesday commencing on the first Wednesday in November and concluding on the first Wednesday of March. It is a strokeplay, non qualifying, competition played over 12 holes as set by the greenstaff. The par is 46 and handicaps are 50% of the players course handicap based on yellow tees. A sweep and magic two’s are paid out every week in two divisions.
The winner of the Ochil Shield is the player with the six lowest nett aggregate scores posted over the winter, prizes are awarded to all players returning six scores. Half of the weekly entry fee is donated by the section to a local good cause at the end of the competition.
Should it be deemed to be necessary, the handicap committee reserve the right to retrospectively amend any results within 21 days of the competition end.
