Pro’s Tip:
Try to put your tee shot down the right half of the fairway to leave the easiest approach to the green. If you’re short and left you’ll have to lay up, unless you’re brave enough to fly it over the guarding tree.
Pro’s Tip:
The gulley at 230 yards should be avoided, either play short with a iron or fairway wood or take driver and try to carry it, leaving a wedge in to a large flat green. Hitting driver brings the out of bounds on the left and the trees on the right into play but if they can be avoided it’s a good birdie chance.
Pro’s Tip:
Toughest hole on the front 9. Play safe and hit the club to take you to the corner, (if you go big you could put it in the trees). Take an extra club for the second shot and fly it to the back left corner of the green. 4 here is always a good score.
Pro’s Tip:
Birdie chance! This short par 4 which can be reached by the longer hitters, has an extremely sloping green, (it’s main defence). Try to leave your approach shot below the hole or you will be faced with a very difficult 2 putt.
Pro’s Tip:
A good drive up the hill is needed to avoid a blind second shot. Beware or the wall running the full length of this hole, anything left is over it and out of bounds.
Pro’s Tip:
A short par 3, which plays one club less than the yardage suggests. Miss the green to the left and you’ve a very tough up and down as the green slopes away from you.
Pro’s Tip:
Longer hitters can go for this par 5 in two. Otherwise two good hits over the gulley leaves a short iron to a long green shared with the 9th, it always plays one more club than you think.
Pro’s Tip:
Club selection vital on this short par 3, too big and you’ll end up in the trees falling away from behind the green, short and you’ll roll back down the valley. Hit the green and you have a good chance at birdie on one of the flatter greens on the course.
Pro’s Tip:
Another short par 4 for the longer hitters to have a go at. The rest of us should use a club that takes the tree in the middle of the fairway out of play to leave an easier approach. The green and the next tee provides some of the best views in the county.
Pro’s Tip:
Toughest par 4 on the course. Mid to high handicap golfers play as a par 5 with low handicap and long hitting golfers going for the green in 2. Try not to miss the green on the right as this leaves an almost impossible up and down.
Pro’s Tip:
Uphill short par 3 with a long narrow green, which slopes right to left more than you think. It usually plays a club more than the yardage suggests
Pro’s Tip:
Open the shoulders on this great driving par 5, with a great view stretching some 30 miles or so to the west. A big drive should leave a chance to get up in two. Hit your approach shot towards the right edge of the green and let it roll down towards the pin.
Pro’s Tip:
Tricky par 4 with a lateral water hazard running almost the entire length of the hole. It has to be crossed, the big hitters taking it on with their tee shot, otherwise play up the right and cross with your second shot using an extra club.
Pro’s Tip:
Arguably the signature hole at Braehead. This downhill par 3 is well bunkered with out of bounds circling the green. A good solid mid to long iron will be rewarded with a flatish putt and a birdie chance. Don’t forget the wind on this sheltered hole as the prevailing Westerly wind draws shots towards the OB on the left.
Pro’s Tip:
A good par 4. From the tee, avoid the out of bounds on the left and trees and a bunker on the right. A new bunker to the left middle of the fairway is there to catch the big hitters. Three bunkers guard a green that slopes from front right to back left.
Pro’s Tip:
Great risk and reward hole with this reachable par 4, where out of bounds guards the left and a burn lies about 230 yards from the tee. Taking driver sets up a real birdie chance or maybe even an eagle. If you are going to lay up, do so well back from the burn where the fairway is widest.
Pro’s Tip:
Long tough dog leg par 4. A good drive is needed past two fairway bunkers on the right and a water hazard on the left. This leaves a long iron or wood to probably the flattest green on the course. 5 is never a disaster here, especially when the wind is in your face.
Pro’s Tip:
Strong finishing hole. two bunkers guard the left half of the fairway one at approximately 220 yards from the tee, the second is 240yards on this demanding uphill tee shot. A drive getting over the hill can leave a mid iron to a well bunkered smallish target. 4 is always a great score to finish with.
